Modern professionally done piercings are typically done with a hypodermic needle. These are the same needles used in hospitals for the most part, simply with no coupling. Basic piercing, as I'm using the term here, implies commonly done easily done and taken care of piercings. This includes navel, nostril, eyebrow, ear cartilidge/lobe piercings, as well as several other examples you will find in the photo carousel below.
